Shipping a damaged prop? Proper packing prevents further damage and ensures a smooth repair process. Here's how to do it right.
Step 1: Remove the Prop Safely
Use a prop wrench to remove the nut, then slide the prop off the shaft. Keep the thrust washer and any spacers—you'll need them for reinstallation. Take photos before removal so you remember the order.
Step 2: Pack It Right
Wrap each blade individually in bubble wrap or foam. Place the prop in a sturdy cardboard box with at least 2 inches of packing material on all sides. The goal is to prevent any movement during transit.
The "Plywood Sandwich" Method
For maximum protection, place the prop between two pieces of plywood cut to size. Bolt through the hub hole to secure. This prevents blade bending even if the box is mishandled.
Step 3: Include Your Information
- Your name, phone number, and email
- Boat make/model and engine type
- Current prop specs (diameter, pitch, # blades)
- Description of the damage or issue
- Any special requests (repitch, polishing, etc.)
Step 4: Ship to Our Shop
Use a trackable shipping method (FedEx, UPS, Canada Post Expedited). Insure the package for the replacement value of your prop. Most repairs are completed within 3-5 business days of receipt.
